What is Lagna (Ascendant)? The foundation of your chart
In a horoscope, the "lagna" is the foundation. The entire structure of your chart is built around it. Let us look simply at what the lagna is and why it matters so much.
What is the lagna?
The sign that was rising on the eastern horizon at the moment of your birth is your lagna (the ascendant, or rising sign). It becomes the first house of your chart. The lagna reflects your body, personality and the overall direction of your life.
Why is it so important?
With the lagna as the first house, all the other eleven houses — money, family, career, marriage and so on — are arranged in order from it. So if the lagna changes, the whole structure of the chart changes. For an accurate reading, a correct lagna is essential.
Why does birth time matter?
The lagna changes roughly once every two hours, so even a few minutes' difference can change it. That is why astrologers stress the importance of an accurate birth time. One simple action: enter your birth date, time and place to find your lagna, rasi and nakshatra for free.
